AGRA: A 50-year-old man reached a police station in Mathura on Saturday, allegedly after consuming poison, to file a case against his neighbour who he claimed was threatening to implicate him in a fake case.
After filing the case, Sundar Singh told policemen that he had consumed some poisonous substance, taking everyone present there off the guard. They rushed Singh to a nearby hospital, where he died during treatment.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Shalabh Mathur, said, “After he submitted his complaint at Raya police station, Singh revealed he had consumed some poisonous substance.
He was immediately taken to district hospital from where he was referred to Nayati hospital after his condition started deteriorating. He, however, died later during the treatment.”
The SSP said that both the victim and accused are relatives.
According to police, Singh, a resident of Nangal village, told the duty officer that Hardev and his wife Chander Devi, were threatening him, as they were angry with him for not meeting them in jail after their arrest in a dowry case last year.
A case has been registered against Hardev Singh and his wife under section 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC on the basis of a complaint given by the victim. He said, section 306 (Abetment of suicide) was added later in the FIR. Hardev Singh has
been arrested and is being interrogated, said police.
Last month, a couple had immolated themselves at Sureer police station of Mathura after accusing the cops of inaction against the people of their village with whom they had a dispute.
Both were rushed to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi where they both died within a week.
