ARA: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday unveiled a life-size statue of eminent freedom fighter and former Piro MLA Ram Ekbal Warsi at Jubilee Park situated on the premises of Piro block office in Bhojpur district.
Warsi was popularly known as ‘Piro ke Gandhi’ by his supporters in Bhojpur and other places as he ardently followed the Gandhian ideal of simple living and high thinking in both letter and spirit.

Warsi’s statue was unveiled on the occasion of his third death anniversary. Later, the CM planted some saplings in Jubilee Park and met a local delegation. The chief minister was accompanied by state building construction minister Ashok Kumar Choudhary and former legislative council chairperson Awadhesh Narain Singh. Born at Warsi village under Tarari block of Bhojpur district in 1924, Warsi joined the freedom struggle and took part in the ‘Quit India Movement’ and many other freedom struggle activities. Later he was elected as a socialist party MLA from Piro in 1969. He also worked with socialist icons like Ram Manohar Lohia and Jayaprakash Narayan.
