Lekshmi Nair has been cooking up a storm on social media with her YouTube channel, Lekshmi Nair Vlogs, launched in April this year. The culinary queen, who has a huge fan base for cookery shows, was in for a surprise when the number of subscribers crossed three lakhs recently. As a mark of gratitude, she is holding ‘Sauhridam — A day with Lekshmi Nair’ today (October 12) to catch up with select subscribers of the channel.

“I wanted to celebrate the success of the channel and connect with my subscribers personally. That’s why I invited entries through a form. I was planning to keep it open for 10 days, but within two days registrations touched 2,000. So I had to close the invitation! I don’t know whether such an event has happened before. I am feeling ecstatic about the whole thing,” she says with a laugh.

Traditional sadya

Lekshmi adds that because of the overwhelming response, there will be two sessions — one from 9.30 am to 12 noon and the other from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm. While the morning session is for subscribers from in and around Thiruvananthapuram, the second is for those from other districts and outside Kerala. “We have registrations from Kasaragod, Kannur, Malappuram, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi, among other places. Actually, I will just meet and greet the invitees. Then as they had requested, I will serve traditional Kerala sadya for all the participants. This is my way of expressing gratitude for their love and support,” Lekshmi says.

Lekshmi has posted 60 videos till date on the channel of which a few have already crossed one million views.

“This includes jackfruit vlogs and those on preparing idli-dosa batter, simple chicken biriyani and idli-sambar. It is quite surprising that there are more views for dishes that are regularly prepared at households,” says Lekshmi, who currently hosts Magic Oven and Flavours of India on Kairali TV.

The event is at Subramaniam Hall, Trivandrum Club. Entry for subscribers is restricted by pass.
