House of councillor attacked in Gaya, four kin injured in firing

GAYA: Four persons, including two minor relatives of a ward councillor of Gaya Municipal Corporation (GMC) received pellet injuries when his house was attacked by a group of hooligans late on Thursday evening. The incident happened in Tootbari locality in the northern part of Gaya town between 9pm and 10pm but police are yet to lodge an FIR.
Police sources said that all injured persons are family members of ward councillor Rahul Kumar.
Those who received pellet injuries were identified as elder sister in-law, sister, nephew and niece of Rahul. Sources said all were on the rooftop at the time of the incident.
Confirming the incident of clash and firing, Gaya SSP Rajiv Mishra said the cause of clash is yet to be ascertained. “Police are working on the basis of inputs received from different sources and investigation is being done from all possible angles. The culprits will not be spared but no innocent person will be victimised,” he said.
Asked about stories doing rounds that a licensed weapon has been seized from the area, the SSP said that no weapon has been seized and he has only ordered verification of the arms possessed by the residents of the area to ascertain if fire was exchanged from any of the weapons.
Incidentally, neither the councillor nor anybody else made any complaint to the police till Friday afternoon and action is being taken on the basis of information received by police from its own sources, the SSP said. “Police are in the process of lodging an FIR and the situation was normal in Tootbari area,” he added.
Asked about the sequence of events, ward councillor Rahul told this newspaper that he would soon file an FIR in the matter giving details.
