SECUNDERABAD: In a major crackdown, vigilance wing of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) on Friday registered criminal cases against 31 property owners for drawing water illegally.
On a tip-off, sleuths of the vigilance wing conducted raids on two different properties in Musheerabad (O&M division V) in Secunderabad and identified the illegal water connections.

In the first instance, the sleuths raided an apartment and found 26 flat owners drawing water through a 20mm pipeline illegally. The property was registered in the name of five owners. “We verified the records and found that the apartment does not have a water connection. During interrogation, we came to know that a person collected Rs 80,000 and installed an illegal water connection,” HMWS&SB chief vigilance officer Ravichandan Reddy told TOI.
After taking the confession statement, criminal cases were filed against all the 26 flat owners, he said.
In the second instance, the property owners installed two illegal water connections and were drawing water from the board’s main source. “We registered five criminal cases against them,” said Ravichandan.
