PATNA: A police informer, Gorelal Koda (40), was allegedly shot in Maoist-infested Lakhisarai district on Saturday morning. The murder has escalated rivalry in the region.
According to police, Koda, a former Maoist leader, had left his house in Gobi Korasi village on Friday evening, but did not return till late in the night. His bullet-riddled body was recovered from Lethia Balchand village under the Piri Bazar police station area in Lakhsarai district around 6am on Saturday and sent to the sadar hospital for post-mortem.
Piri Bazar police station SHO Gajendra Kumar said, “Koda was released from the Lakhisarai district jail almost four months ago.
He was engaged in agricultural work at his native village since then.”
The SHO did not rule out the possibility of old rivalry behind the murder of Koda, who earlier happened to be an active member of the Communist Party of India (Maoist). Two cases were lodged against him in Lakhisarai district alone.
Locals said Koda had been shot from point-blank range, leading to his death instantly.
Lethia Balchand village, around 15km from Piri Bazar, is considered to be a hotbed of the Maoists.
Earlier, two people were gunned down by a group of heavily-armed Maoists on suspicion of being informers at a crowded market in Mananpur under the Chanan police limits of the district on August 19.
Lakhisarai is one of the four districts in the state which are the most affected by Left-wing extremism. The other three are Gaya, Aurangabad and Jamui.
