GORAKHPUR: Four persons were feared drowned after a boat carrying them capsized in UP’s Sant Kabir Nagar district on Saturday.
Police said 18 villagers on a boat had gone for paddy sowing in Ghaghra river, when the boat carrying them overturned. 14 people were rescued by police. All the victims hailed from Balrampur and Chhaprapurvi villages.
Sub-divisional magistrate of Dhanghata in Sant Kabir Nagar, Pramod Kumar, said around 11.30 am first call was received at UP Police’s 100 number about the incident and immediately team was dispatched.

The team along with National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) has managed to rescue 14, while three women and a minor are feared drowned. "Divers have been pressed to trace the missing persons," said Kumar.
Police also said that prima facie it has come to the fore that the boatman was inexperienced which probably led to the mishap.
