ALLAHABAD: Pratapgarh police have launched Mukhbir Yojana to seek common man’s help in gathering information about criminal activities in the district.
Initially implemented in six police station areas of Patti in Pratapgarh, the scheme was introduced by deputy SP Navneet Nayak two days ago.
He said he received two phone calls in last two days and the cops were verifying information provided by the callers.

Cops are also moving in Raniganj, Kotwali, Kodhaur, Aspur Devsarai, Patti and adjoining areas to connect with people.
“I have approached people through social media urging them to act as whistleblowers and get rewarded by informing the police about criminal activities in their areas. The reward will be in accordance with the nature of information provided to us,” Nayak said.
He said police would verify information passed on to them before taking any action.
He said the informers would be rewarded through the existing ‘mukhbir fund’ and, if required, he would spend from his own pocket to improve the image of police in his area.

“Youngsters in the age group of 17 to 25 years often enter crime world. We want them to remain in the mainstream and be the eyes and ears of police department,” he said.
The crime-infested belt of Pratapgarh has already gained the dubious distinction of being the safe haven for criminals possessing illegal weapons like Munger-made pistol and stolen vehicles.
The deputy SP said a vehicle-checking drive has also been launched as criminals use illegal weapons and stolen vehicles to execute crime.
