Another TSRTC employee, G Sandeep, 40, attempted suicide by slitting his wrist in Yousufguda, Hyderabad. The suicide attempt came in the backdrop of a strike by Telangana RTC employees across the state, which began on October 5. 

So far, two employees have lost their lives during the protest.

South Korean singer-actress Sulli was found dead at a residence in Seongnam, south of Seoul, on Monday, News agency Yonhap reports quoting police.

"The 25-year-old, whose legal name is Choi Jin-ri, was found dead by her agent at around 3:21 p.m. at a two-story house in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province," according to the police.

The Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday said they have arrested two persons for allegedly duping US e-commerce multinational of crores of rupees.

The two accused men have been identified as Rohit Soni and Rahul Singh Rathore. Both hail from Rajasthan.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kalanidhi Naithani told reporters here that "Amazon's investigative team and their lawyer had complained that a gang of fraudsters had been duping Amazon worth crores of rupees over the last 2-3 years. A case under relevant sections of the IPC and IT Act was lodged in the matter and an investigation was started."

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has suspended five officials, including the District Magistrate of Maharajganj for alleged irregularities in the state's cow protection programme. State Chief Secretary R.K. Tiwari told reporters here on Monday that large scale irregularities had been found in the cow shelter in Maharajganj.

The suspended officials include the District Magistrate Amar Nath Upadhyaya, two Sub-Divisional Magistrates Devendra Kumar and Satya Misra, Chief Veterinary Officer Rajiv Upadhyaya and veterinary officer B.K. Maurya.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Karnataka Minister D.K. Shivakumar's wife and mother for questioning in connection with a money laundering case against the Congress leader. The ED has earlier questioned Shivakumar's daughter Aishwarya; his brother and MP D.K. Suresh; and Belagavi Rural MLA Lakshmi Hebbalkar.

Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday made a vehement appeal to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for bringing jet fuel and natural gas under the ambit of GST to reduce multiplicity of taxes and improve the business climate.

When GST was introduced on July 1, 2017, amalgamating over a dozen central and state levies, five commodities - crude oil, natural gas, petrol, diesel, and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) - were kept out of its purview given the revenue dependence of state governments on this sector.

"It has been two years since the historic tax reform GST was implemented," Pradhan said at India Energy Forum of CERAWeek here. "There has been continuous demand from the petroleum industry for the inclusion of petroleum products under the GST regime. I make a strong appeal to Finance Minister to take this up with the GST Council and at least make a beginning by including natural gas and ATF in the GST."

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday appealed to the farmers of the state to avoid burning crop residue as it damages the environment. He asked the departments concerned to create awareness among the farmers about the ill-effects of stubble burning.

"Animals do not get their rightful share of fodder due to stubble burning. The practice also kills the friendly bacteria and fungi present in abundance in the soil. Thus stubble burning permanently damages the environment and fertility of the soil," Adityanath said.

Two policemen were injured when a car deployed in the security of UP cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi' fell into a three-foot-deep pit.

The incident took place on Sunday night in the Aurai police station area. The minister's vehicle was behind the car that fell into the pit, the officials said.
Gupta took the injured policemen in his car to a nearby private hospital.

"The incident took place on Sunday night when the minister was returning to Prayagraj. The driver of the gipsy sustained head injuries, while Constable Paakhand Kumar broke his arm," Superintendent of Police Ram Badan Singh said.

An escort vehicle of a top police officer collided with a bus on the Jammu-Pathankot Highway in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Monday, leaving a jawan dead and two others injured. The police vehicle was escorting additional director general of police (ADGP) on the highway when it collided with a passenger bus at Dhaloti Morh in Kathua.

SSB jawan Deen Dayal died and two security personnel were injured in the accident.

Police have seized the bus and arrested the driver for rash driving, they said.

A 63-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl residing in his neighbourhood in Chhattisgarh's Raipur district. The incident took place in a village located on the outskirts of the state capital on Saturday when the girl was playing outside her house.

On finding the girl alone, the accused, Krishna Chandrakar, allegedly raped her. When the girl's mother saw the child crying and complaining of pain in her private parts, she enquired with her following which the minor informed her about the incident.

The Finance Ministry on Monday said loans worth Rs 81,781 crore were disbursed during the nine-day outreach programme or loan mela organised by banks that began on October 1. Finance Secretary Rajeev Kumar said "Rs 81,781 crore was disbursed in the outreach programme. Of these, new loans accounted for Rs 34,342 crore."

Further, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the banks have sufficient liquidity, and efforts are being made to ensure that due payments are released to the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector by large corporates.

In order to ensure liquidity for small businesses, Sitharaman said that banks have been asked to provide bill discounting facility to the MSME sector against payments due from the large corporates.

According to returns filed by the large corporates to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, as much as Rs 40,000 crore is due to the MSME sector, she said adding that all efforts would be made to ensure that MSMEs get their dues ahead of Diwali.

Metro Railway services in the city were partially disrupted for about half an hour on Monday morning after a man jumped on the tracks in front of an
approaching train at Gitanjali station. An unidentified elderly person attempted suicide at 9.28 am at the station, leading to a partial disruption in
services, a Kolkata Metro Rail official said.

Metro managed to run truncated service from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station at Tollygunj to Dum Dum, the official added.

The services were resumed from 10.06 am, he said. 

The Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was trying to spread its tentacles across India and a list of 125 suspects have been shared with different states, National Investigation Agency (NIA) chief YC Modi said on Monday. Addressing a meeting of chiefs of the Anti Terrorism Squads (ATS), Modi said the JMB has spread its activities in states like Jharkhand, Bihar, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala in the guise of Bangladeshi immigrants.

"The NIA has shared with states concerned a list of 125 suspected activists who have close links with the JMB leadership," he said.

Giving details of various operational theatres, Inspector General of the NIA, Alok Mittal however said the list, which was shared with the states, contains 130 suspects.

Ten persons have been arrested for allegedly pulling out the teeth of a 55-year-old man and forcing him to consume human excreta after suspecting
him of practising witchcraft in Ganjam district. The incident occurred at Jhada Sahi under Jagannath Prasad police station on Thursday and the
accused were arrested on Sunday.

The arrests were made on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim Sudam Nayak on Friday, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Bhanjanagar, S S Mishra.

Accused Rakesh Wadhawan, Sarang Wadhawan and Waryam Singh have been sent to police custody till 16th October by Mumbai's Esplanade court in PMC Bank case. 

Three persons have been trapped while extracting coal from an illegal coal mine at Kulti in West Bengal, an official said on Monday. An Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) rescue team could not enter the mine in Paschim Bardhaman district due to poisonous gas at the mouth of the pit, the ECL official said.

The incident took place on Sunday night when four coal pilferers were extracting coal from the mine, locals said.

"Police informed us that three persons are trapped in an illegal mine at Aldhi village in Kulti. Our rescue team failed to enter the pit twice due to poisonous gas at the mouth of the pit, which is narrow," the official told PTI.

While three illegal miners got trapped inside the mine, the fourth managed to escape, the police said.

An unclaimed bag found at the airport here on Monday caused a flutter, before security officials removed it for examination. According to airport officials, the bag was found in the domestic departure area.

CISF personnel examined the bag using metal detectors and sniffer dogs and upon discovering some articles in it, removed it for further examination, they said.

CCTV footage was being examined to ascertain who left the bag behind, officials added.

Wholesale prices based inflation eased to 0.33 per cent in September, as against 1.08 per cent in August due to fall in prices of non-food articles, government data showed on Monday.

The annual rate of inflation, based on monthly wholesale price index (WPI), was at 5.22 per cent in September 2018.

The rate of price rise for the food articles was at 7.47 per cent during the month, while that for non-food articles stood at 2.18 per cent, showed the data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

In an early morning operation, J&K Police along with other security forces caught two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists from Ganderbal, Kashmir. Arms & ammunition including AK-47 rifles have been recovered from their possession, said Jammu & Kashmir Police Sources.

A moderate 5.8 magnitude earthquake rocked Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday, days after 40 people were killed in a powerful quake in PoK and other parts of the country.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, the epicentre of the quake was in the Hindu Kush mountains in Afghanistan, 157 kilometers below the surface of earth.

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) spokesman Taimur Ali said the earthquake was felt in Peshawar, Malakand, Mardan, Charsadda, Swat and in the Hazara areas.

Ali said that no loss to life or property had been reported so far in the province.

On September 24, a powerful earthquake jolted several parts of Pakistan, particularly Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The earthquake killed 40 people in the entire region and left over 450 injured. 

Supreme Court's five-judge Constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, starts today's hearing in the Ayodhya land case. Today is the 38th day of hearing. 

'There is nothing to suggest or show that the plaintiff (Nirmohi Akahara and others) are proprietors of the disputed land in question," said Dr Rajeev Dhawan,senior lawyer appearing for one of the Muslim parties.

Postpaid mobile services on all networks were restored in the Kashmir Valley on Monday, 72 days after they were snapped following restrictions.
Some 40 lakh postpaid mobile phones have become operational from Monday noon.

Restrictions were imposed after the Centre on August 5 abrogated the state's special status and bifurcated it into Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, which will come into being on October 31.

Partial fixed-line telephony was resumed in the Valley on August 17 and by September 4, nearly 50,000 landlines were declared operational.

In Jammu, the communication was restored within days of the blockade and mobile internet was started around mid-August. However, after its misuse, internet facility on cell phones was snapped on August 18.

Adani Gas stocks jumps after the news of French Energy giant TOTAL agreeing to buy 37.4 per cent stake came through on Monday. 

Adani gas will not ride the distribution channel for TOTAL. 

 "We expect on the current what we disclosed a capital outlay in the order of Rs 7,000 crore," Robbie Singh, Group CFO at Adani  told CNBC. 

"It is the total investment for Adani Gas," Robbie Singh clarified when probed.

"The partnership between Adani (50 per cent) and Total (50 per cent) includes several assets across the gas value chain notably two imports and regasification LNG terminals: Dhamra in East India and potentially Mundra in the west, as well as Adani Gas, one of the four main distributors of city gas in India of which Adani holds 74.8 per cent and of which Total will acquire 37.4 per cent," the French firm TOTAL said in a statement.

Shares of Infosys on Monday fell over 4 per cent after the company reported a decline in its consolidated net profit for the July-September quarter.

The scrip dropped 4.25 per cent to Rs 781 on the BSE. On the NSE, it fell 4.27 per cent to Rs 780.

The country's second-largest IT services company on Friday said its consolidated net profit declined by 2.2 per cent to Rs 4,019 crore for the July-September 2019 quarter. 

This is against a net profit of Rs 4,110 crore in the same period last fiscal, Infosys said in a regulatory filing.

The Indian rupee appreciated by 28 paise to 70.74 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday as gains in domestic equity market and positive developments on the US-China trade talks front strengthened investor sentiments.

At the interbank foreign exchange the rupee opened at 70.83, then gained further ground and touched a high of 70.74, registering a rise of 28 paise over its previous close.

Two BJP leaders from Uttar Pradesh's Shajahanpur were now on the radar of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) which is probing sexual assault charges against former Union Minister Chinmayanand.

The two leaders are believed to have been in close contact with Sanjay Singh, one of the three main accused in the extortion case.

According to SIT sources, these leaders learnt of the video recordings through Vikram, another accused in the case.

In a major step towards easing the 69-day lockdown in the Kashmir Valley, authorities on Saturday announced that some 40 lakh postpaid mobile phones will become operational from Monday noon. The announcement was made by Jammu and Kashmir Principle Secretary and Spokesman Rohit Kansal at a nationally televised press conference.

However, over 20 lakh prepaid mobile phones, and mobile and other internet services will remain deactivated for now.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will on Monday campaign for the party in Haryana and will address a public meeting in Nuh, sources said. Gandhi will address the meeting in the afternoon and will reach Nuh in southern Haryana by road from Delhi, they said. The meeting was finalised after consultations with party leaders of the state.

Nuh is the district headquarters in the Mewat area and falls under the Gurgaon parliamentary constituency. Gandhi is also campaigning for the party for the Maharashtra assembly elections on October 13 and 15.

Assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra are slated on October 21. 

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which recently concluded its Rs 645-crore initial public offering, will make its stock market debut on Monday. The shares will be listed on the BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

"Effective from Monday, October 14, 2019, the equity shares of IRCTC Ltd shall be listed and admitted to dealings on the exchange in the list of 'B ' Group of Securities," BSE said in a circular.

The IPO, which was open for subscription between September 30 and October 4, was subscribed 112 times at a price band of Rs 315-320 per share.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will hold a review meeting with CEOs of public sector banks (PSBs) on Monday to discuss various issues, including progress on credit offtake, as part of efforts to prop up the economy. The meeting is expected to review fund flow to stressed NBFC and MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) sectors, sources said.

Banks are expected to present a report card on partial credit guarantee scheme and fund raising from the market to enhance their capital base.

The Centre in August issued guidelines on operationalising Rs 1 lakh crore partial guarantee scheme under which PSBs can purchase high-rated pooled assets of financially sound non-banking finance companies (NBFCs).

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said he was saddened by the loss of life and extensive destruction caused by Typhoon Hagibis in Japan. At least 35 people have died, and another 17 missing on Sunday as Hagibis ripped through Japan including the Tokyo metropolitan area, causing multiple rivers to overflow and blackouts in 376,000 houses, Xinhua reported.

Unable to get qualified personnel from the Scheduled Caste Converts to Christianity (SCCC) category to fill up 25 posts for Assistant Surgeons/Casualty Medical Officer, the Kerala Public Service Commission has issued notification, third since December 2014, inviting applications for the posts. The notification has been issued by the Health Service Department and the pay scale is Rs 45,800-89,000.

The notification, titled Third NCA Notification or Third No Candidate Available Notification, was issued on July 27, 2019, with the last date of application as August 29.

Eight persons were killed and one went missing while five others were seriously injured on Sunday when the jeep they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge in Tharali area of Chamoli district. The deceased were identified Jasbir Singh (32), Surendra Singh (30), Madan Singh (60), Darban Singh (48), Madan Singh (38), Kailash Singh (40), Gopal Singh (35) and Dharam Singh (55). The one who has gone missing is Jai Singh Danu, 48.
 

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday discussed the situation in Kashmir with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani amidst tensions with India after New Delhi abrogated Jammu and Kashmir's special status. Khan, who visited Tehran on Sunday to help mitigate tensions between bitter regional rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia, held talks with President Rouhani at the presidential palace and later met with Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Pakistan Foreign Office in a statement said Khan discussed the situation in Kashmir with Rouhani and expressed gratitude over "Iran's support" on the Kashmir issue.

Pakistan has been trying to internationalise the Kashmir issue after India withdrew the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, but New Delhi has asserted the abrogation of Article 370 was its "internal matter" and has asked Islamabad to accept the reality.

In a joint operation, Delhi Police along with Bihar Police arrested two men wanted in a case robbery worth Rs 50 lakh in Hauz Rani area. The accused, Murad, 32, and Mohammad Mubarak, 27, both residents of Kadua district of Katihar in Bihar, were wanted in the case registered at Kadua district.

The two were nabbed by the point team of a special staff of south district of Delhi Police and Bihar Police. 

A man was arrested for allegedly killing a 16-year-old girl after raping her in west Delhi's Naraina, police said on Sunday. The accused and the victim were known to each other, they said. Police said, they were informed by the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital about the death of a girl on Saturday. According to the police, the girl was found dead by her parents in the morning. No external injuries were found on the victim's body.
