It's officially the second week of the international break which means Manchester United are finally back in action this weekend and it's just a small matter of the visit of Liverpool.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be working on a plan this week to beat Jurgen Klopp's league leaders at Old Trafford on Sunday and he'll be hoping to have midfielder Paul Pogba back available.

Reports last week suggested the France international had broken a bone in his foot but he's been posting videos from his warm weather training in Dubai which could hint towards a return to full fitness soon.

In transfer news United continue to be linked with Mario Mandzukic, who was a target in the summer, and Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic who is said to be unhappy at the Nou Camp having slipped down the pecking order.

Stick with us for all the latest Manchester United news.

United 'confident' of signing Mandzukic

United are reportedly confident that Juventus will accept a £9m offer for Mario Mandzukic in January.

Goal say Mandzukic is expected to sign an 18-month contract at Old Trafford worth £4.4m-per-year.

The 33-year-old is out of favour at Juve, increasing United’s chances of completing a relatively hassle-free deal, the report adds.

“I don’t want to speak too much about previous managers, but Jose’s very special to me,” McTominay explained .

“He still keeps in contact with me now and keeps in touch with me after games and different things like that. So he’ll always have a special place in mine and my family’s heart because he was the one who brought you here, he was the one who trusted you, he’s the one who had belief in you.

“I owe a tremendous amount of credit to him, because if it wasn’t for him, I might not necessarily be sat in this seat.”

Owen praises Liverpool's United trait

Former United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen says the current league leaders are doing what United became so feared for - scoring late winners.

Ahead of Liverpool’s visit to Old Trafford, Owen told Premier League Productions:

“Well I think we’ve seen it so many times over the years. It’s a great trait in many teams. I think when you look back at Manchester United in their glory years everybody used to complain about ‘Fergie time’ and about the amount of goals they scored late on.

“But I think once you start doing it once or twice, you start believing that it’s going to happen and then it becomes almost a habit.

“Once you’ve got that you’ve got another string to your bow I think, going right to the end, believing that you’re going to score late on is a great strength to have.

“Of course Liverpool managed to do it and who knows, it might be a sign of future champions.”

Owen had spells with both Manchester United and Liverpool.

Huge opportunity for Rashford tonight

If - as reports suggest - Marcus Rashford starts on the wing for England tonight, he has a chance to continue a fine record for England.

Rashford has scored all seven of his England goals when starting the match, with an impressive record of five goals and two assists in his last nine starts for the Three Lions.

The forward is in desperate need of a confidence boost, and another good performance for England in Bulgaria tonight could be the spark he needs to re-find form at Old Trafford.

Sweden manager's Lindelof injury update

Sweden manager Janne Anderson says Victor Lindelof is preparing to play against Spain tomorrow.

Lindelof didn’t feature against Malta last week after missing United’s defeat to Newcastle through injury, but could now be in line to play against David de Gea’s Spain.

After stating every player was preparing to play, Anderson clarified:

I haven’t heard anything other than Vigge [Lindelof] getting ready to play.

The Zlatan decision United must make in January

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has never been the type to turn down a bit of easy self promotion, so when he was discussing the struggles at Manchester United recently, he responded with the same unerring accuracy he normally shows when a chance presents itself in the MLS.

“I could play easy in the Premier League, so if United needs me, I’m here,” beamed the Swede, painting himself as the knight in shining armour ready to ride to United’s rescue.

They could certainly do with a goalscorer of Ibrahimovic’s quality, when he was in his prime, and a return of 52 goals in 56 games for LA Galaxy have convinced some that he is the answer to the question that has confounded Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so far this season: How do you get United to score more goals?
