Dolittle “whistleblower” suggests movie was a production nightmare

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

This weekend we got a look at the first trailer and poster for DOLITTLE (originally titled THE VOYAGE OF DOCTOR DOLITTLE), the long-in-development family/fantasy flick starring Robert Downey Jr. Regardless of what your impressions were, the release of said trailer and poster sparked much online discussion and one supposed "insider" (re: whistleblower) took to Reddit to exclaim their issues with the production, which resulted in the film's director, Stephen Gaghan being fired and THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE director Chris McKay and TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES' director Jonathan Liebesman stepping in to rewrite and reshoot 21 days worth of production, which we reported on earlier.

However, this now deleted rant from the "insider" (who sounds like someone in the previs/proproduction department) suggests that it was far from business-as-usual in this scenario, calling Gaghan "batshit" in terms of not comprehending what goes into making a movie with a bunch of talking animals, leading to some physical outburts and his supposed eventual "firing".  Oh, and let's not forget about the racist dog. Ah, Hollywood.

Again, this is not "confirmed" and I can't imagine it ever will be, so take it with whatever level of salt grain you want. There's always three sides to every story: yours, mine and the truth. Wherever this one falls, I don't know, but it's a somewhat humorous day in the life of Hollywood. Check out the screenshots below.

DOLITTLE flocks into theaters on January 17, 2020 to scratch that talking CGI animal itch.
