AGRA: Lawyers in Aligarh sat on a dharna, on Monday, demanding withdrawal of an FIR lodged against four advocates who were booked for allegedly creating ruckus and damaging government property inside the tehsil campus last week.
According to police, the four advocates had vandalised the barricading, which was installed by the administration inside the campus to stop the movement of two-wheelers, and had also locked the tehsil gate, while creating ruckus at the sub divisional magistrate’s court.

The lawyers, JP Singh, Mridul, Yogesh, and Pradeep Kumar, were booked along with one Munshi under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 147 (rioting) of IPC and Sections 3 and 5 in The Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
Sub-divisional magistrate (Koil) Ranjeet Singh told media persons that the case was registered against advocates as they violated the law by damaging government property, including the barricade and some items in his office.
However, District Bar Association president Rakshpal Yadav blamed the administration of unnecessarily creating an issue by lodging an FIR against the advocates, who were only objecting to the putting up of the barricading on a common road. He said, “We will continue the dharna till the FIR is withdrawn.”
