PATNA: The Supaul police on Monday arrested three people in connection with last week’s incident in which a minor girl was allegedly gang raped and her elder sister gunned down for resisting rape attempt.
Supaul SP Mritunjay Kumar Choudhary said the trio – Anmaol Yadav, Mohammad Ali Sher and Mohammad Ayub – were arrested from Chhatapur police station area in the district early on Monday morning.
The trio, whose sketches were released by the police on Friday, have confessed to their involvement in the crime and disclosed the names of four others.
The police also recovered a loaded pistol and parts of looted articles from the hideouts of the arrested people. “The release of sketches of the suspects led to the arrest of three of the seven accused in the sensational case,” the SP said.
“Raids are on to nab the remaining accused. The police will initiate the process of attaching the property of the accused if they continued to evade arrest. The investigating officer of the case has been asked to submit the chargesheet against the arrested people within the stipulated period,” the SP added.
The incident took place when the girl along with her elder sister and aunt were returning home from a village fair on October 8. Seven people waylaid them near Chinoli river and raped the minor girl. When her elder sister resisted, she was shot by the culprits.
The matter, however, remained under wraps for two days as the police claimed that robbery was the motive behind the murder of the married woman and denied rape of the minor girl. However, the rape survivor later met the SP and requested him to conduct a fair probe into the incident.
SHO of Pratapganj police station Rajnish Kumar Keshari claimed the minor girl had earlier denied rape with her in her statement recorded in the court under section 164 of CrPC. The post mortem report will confirm whether the married woman, who died during treatment in Patna, was also raped by the accused. “The post mortem report is still awaited,” the SHO added.
