JHANSI: Four members of a family were charred to death while one suffered serious burn injuries when a fire broke out in their house in the early hours of Tuesday. The incident took place in
Jhansi's
Sipri Bazaar area.
The fire broke out around 2.30am after battery of an inverter blasted and came in contact with refrigerator, said the police.
The deceased were identified as Jagdish, his wife Kumudbala, an elderly woman Rajni and his daughter Muskaan.
One person has been seriously injured and admitted to a hospital, said the police.
Police said that the fire erupted in the ground floor and all the four were sleeping in one room which had no ventilation, thus, trapping the family members. The victims apparently were suffocated to death due to thick smoke and were later charred in the flames which engulfed the entire house.
CO (city) Abhishek Kumar Rahul said the victim's brother lived with his family in another portion of the house and after noticing flames billowing he informed police. The deceased ran a general store.
It took firemen 45 minutes to douse the flames.
