Setback for Congress in Pratapgarh, three-time MP Ratna Singh joins BJP
Singh, along with hundreds of her supporters, reached the Gadhwa Inter College ground where Yogi was scheduled to address a rally.
LUCKNOW: In a major set back to the Congress ahead of crucial bypoll in Pratapgarh, three times MP from the seat, Rajkumari Ratna Singh joined the BJP on Tuesday. Singh joined the BJP in the presence of CM Yogi Adityanath who had reached the constituency for campaigning for BJP ally and Apna Dal candidate Raj Kumar Pal.
Singh, along with hundreds of her supporters, reached the Gadhwa Inter College ground where Yogi was scheduled to address a rally, leaving the Congress brass red faced.
Singh's defection comes days after Congress effected a major change in its organisation and hoisted Congress MLA Ajay Kumar Lallu as chief of UP Congress committee.
BJP sources said that Singh was being persuaded by top BJP ranks for the past one week to join the saffron brigade. Sources said that the BJP, which has been engineering defections in the rival political camps had kept Singh's joining under wraps till the last moment.
