NEW DELHI: Two incidents of suicides and technical snag affected passenger movement at different metro stations on Tuesday. In the first incident, a manager working with a hotel in west Delhi reached the New Ashok Nagar metro station on Tuesday afternoon and jumped in front of a moving train. While in the second incident, a man jumped over the railings at the non-paid area of the Uttam Nagar East metro station and landed on the road below.
In the New Ashok Nagar incident, police received a call around 2.19pm when the man aged around 25 jumped in front of the moving train going towards Yamuna Bank.
A team pulled out the man from under the rakes and rushed him to a hospital where he was declared dead. The man was later identified as Amit Soni, a resident of Gwalior. Soni stayed at a rented accommodation in Janakpuri. “No suicide note has been recovered from him,” said a police officer.
In the second incident, a man, who was later identified as Rajiv, was found bleeding on the footpath below the metro station. He was taken to the Mata Chanan Devi hospital by the traffic cops posted nearby, but was declared dead on arrival. Cops recovered a suicide note from him in which he said that he was taking the extreme step as he was under heavy debts. His family members, who stay in JJ Colony, were informed.
Meanwhile, the metro services at the busy Yellow Line faced disruption in train operations during peak morning rush hour. “Services between Sultanpur and HUDA City Centre section of Yellow Line were affected from 8.30 am to 8.57 am due to a point flash (signalling issue) near Sultanpur metro station,” a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson said.
“Trains were regulated during this period as the maintenance staff attended to the issue. This led to minor bunching on the line, which was gradually cleared once the issue was resolved at 8.57 am,” he said.
While DMRC claims that services were affected for a short period and there was minor bunching of trains, commuters complained they had to face long delays and crawling trains at a time when everyone is rushing to their offices.

“Yet again Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line towards Huda City Centre was hit by a technical snag. Metro running way too slow, stations are crowded and trains are terminating on various stations,” tweeted Manish Sheoran, a commuter. Many commuters complained that the Yellow Line has been facing technical snags far too often of late.
A technical snag later affected train operations for a while on Blue Line during peak evening rush hour.
