SECUNDERABAD: In order to address the increasing complaints against stray
dogs, GHMC officials said they are involving NGOs.
“Nearly 1,200 strays have been sterilised in the last eight years,” GHMC assistant director, veterinary wing, T Srinivasa Reddy told TOI.
On an average, 30 to 40 stray dogs are sterilised in a month these days, officials claimed.
A senior official said though they are undertaking sterilisation procedures regularly and working towards controlling the menace, migration of stray dogs from neighbouring areas of Secunderabad into residential colonies is creating new problems.
“This is a problem we need to sort out at the earliest,” Srinivasa Reddy added.
Contrary to claims by GHMC, residents said that authorities have failed to take enough steps to sterilise canines.
Residents of
Marredpally,
Tarnaka,
Malkajgiri, Anandbagh, Safilguda, Defence Colony and
Sitaphalmandi said that number of stray dogs is multiplying, despite GHMC and Cantonment authorities claiming to have taken concrete steps.
“If the sterilisation drive is effective, why would women, children and elderly persons say they are scared to venture out,” said Rama Lakshmi of Bharani Colony.
