Nizamabad: Rs 9,000 MSP for turmeric suggested

The national-level task force, which met in Nizamabad on Wednesday to discuss the demands of turmeric farmers, gave its nod to provide minimum support price to the produce. It is likely to recommend Rs 9,000 MSP per tonne of turmeric. Setting up of turmeric board in Nizamabad was, however, not discussed at the meeting.

HYDERABAD: The national-level task force, which met in Nizamabad on Wednesday to discuss the demands of turmeric farmers, gave its nod to provide minimum support price to the produce. It is likely to recommend Rs 9,000 MSP per tonne of turmeric. Setting up of turmeric board in Nizamabad was, however, not discussed at the meeting.
Interacting with mediapersons after the meeting, BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind said the Spices Board officials felt that MSP for turmeric was long overdue, considering the production cost at Rs 6,000 a tonne.
Though he avoided mentioning the MSP amount, the task force had recommended Rs 9,000, it was learnt.
Officials and traders from nine turmeric growing states like Telangana, AP, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Odisha took part in the first such meeting.
