PATNA: A 55-year-old Scheduled Caste woman was beaten to death following an altercation over land dispute in Kaimur district, police said on Friday.
The incident took place around 2.30pm when Kamli Devi was engaged in erecting her hut at Akhni village under Nuaw police outpost on Thursday. Her neighbours, Sumera Bind, Ramavtar Bind, Yugal Bind and Gaya Bind, first tried to stop her and then attacked her with sticks and iron rods causing her grievous injuries.
Earlier, the deceased’s husband, Surendra Bind, lodged an FIR against the four accused.
Kamli was rushed to the primary health centre from where she was referred to the Bhabhua sadar hospital. She, however, succumbed to her injuries on way to the hospital. As the news about her death spread, some local residents assembled and hurled abuses on the accused. The marauders, however, fled the spot by the time police reached there.
Kaimur SP Dilnawaz Ahmad has set up a special team to nab the accused. “On a tip-off, the team arrested all the four accused on Friday,” the SP told this newspaper over phone.
Nuaw police outpost SHO Shakti Kumar Singh said the arrested persons were sent to jail. They confessed to the crime and revealed that the two families had a prolonged dispute over a plot of land, which led to the Thursday’s incident.
The police also seized the traditional weapons used in the crime. “Bloodstained sticks were seized from the spot. An FSL team also collected bloodstained soil from the site for test,” the SHO said, adding that the chargesheet against the four accused would be filed in the court at the earliest.
