Kozhikode to host three-day community-based disaster risk mitigation workshop

The U.S. Consulate General in Chennai and Kochi-based think tank Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR), in association with Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) will organise a series of workshops and awareness-building events in Kozhikode from October 22 to 24.

KOZHIKODE: The U.S. Consulate General in Chennai and Kochi-based think tank Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR), in association with Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) will organise a series of workshops and awareness-building events in Kozhikode from October 22 to 24.
The workshops are part of the "America with Kerala" project, which is designed to share best practices from the United States on disaster preparedness and management with relevant agencies and stakeholders in Kerala.
It will also give an opportunity for the US experts to learn from Kerala's resilience in managing disasters.
The "America with Kerala" workshops were previously held in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. The third and the final workshop in Kozhikode will be held on the theme of Community-Based Disaster Risk Mitigation. The two-day training workshop on Community Based Disaster Risk Mitigation, which aims to reinforce the skills of first responders, emergency management officials, private and non-governmental partners, citizen groups, journalists to perform their key tasks prior to, during, and after emergencies.
One-day community empowerment workshop in which, approximately 60 community leaders will solicit ideas to develop a Community Resource Guide for effective disaster management.
Kerala Minister for Health, Social Justice, and Woman and Child Development K K Shailaja Teacher will be the chief guest at the valedictory ceremony on October 24. District collector Sambasiva Rao; Lauren Lovelace, Consul for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, U.S. Consulate General in Chennai; and Dr D Dhanuraj, Chairman, CPPR will also be present at the event.
