Absconding Darbhanga murder convict held in Delhi

PATNA: The special task force formed by the police headquarters with help of Delhi Police’s special cell arrested Vikas Jha alias Kalia from New Delhi on Friday. Vikas, who was awarded life term in the sensational Darbhanga double engineers’ murder case, had escaped from a Bhagalpur hospital where he was undergoing treatment on August 19.
Sources said a joint team of the STF and the special cell of Delhi Police conducted a raid at Vikas’s hideout in Nangloi locality of the national capital and took him in custody.Vikas was staying with his girlfriend ever since he had escaped from judicial custody in Bhagalpur about two months ago. A foreign-made pistol and a few live cartridges were seized from his possession.
Vikas, a native of Sitamarhi district, would be produced in a Bhagalpur court after being taken from Delhi on transit remand. Vikas had escaped from JLNMCH after throwing chilli powder in the eyes of the constables deployed at the prisoners’ ward. Vikas’s close relative Ayush Kumar, was, however, arrested by the police while trying to flee with the former. A case was lodged with the Barari police station in this connection.
Bhagalpur SSP Ashish Bharti had put one ASI and four constables under suspension.
