Once I had love – and it wasn’t a gas…

That’s right, Debbie Harry is backing Extinction Rebellion.

The Blondie star – who is also a beekeeper – is right behind the controversial climate change activists.

The singer insists: “These are the things we have to do.”

When asked if she would like to join the XR protests, she says: “I wouldn’t mind doing that actually.

“I’m still passionate about the bees, absolutely – and water and environmental concerns are paramount in today’s world.”

So would she glue herself to a train? “I guess I don’t have any objection to it,” the rocker tells me.

“These are the things we have to do, everybody should be more active I think. It’s a sad state of affairs.”

On her beekeeping tactics, she adds: “I don’t know if I’m terrifically good at it but I keep trying. You know, it sounds ridiculous – I almost feel bad taking the honey out of the hive.

“They do use the honey to get through the winter. And over in the States where I live, in the north east the winters are very severe.”

Another of Debbie’s hobbies is collecting 1920s Tramp Art.

The Heart of Glass singer explains: “It’s these little carved boxes that homeless people would make for the ladies, for them to be able to get a bowl of soup or a sandwich.”

I caught up with Debbie, 74, at Waterstones in London’s Piccadilly, where she was signing copies of her new memoir, Face It.

And she insists she’s got “closure” by writing down all her stories.

Now she is looking forward to the future – and reckons fans could see her on the bill for Glastonbury Festival’s 50th next summer.

She adds: “I would love it – that would really be so nice. I would be down for that.”
