The mutilated body of a 22-year-old college student, who had been missing since October 14, was found on Friday in Ratua. Locals held her fiancé responsible. They staged a roadblock on the Malda-Ratua state highway, demanding punishment for him.

MALDA: The mutilated body of a 22-year-old college student, who had been missing since October 14, was found on Friday in Ratua. Locals held her fiancé responsible. They staged a roadblock on the Malda-Ratua state highway, demanding punishment for him.
Marjina Khatun was a second-year student of Samsi College. She was engaged to Bapi Sk of Rukundipur village who serves in the Army .
Her relatives claimed Bapi had called her to meet on October 14. She left home before noon, but failed to return.
Anxious family members contacted Bapi, who denied meeting Marjina. At night, the family filed a missing report at Ratua police station. Bapi was detained on October 16 and later arrested.
On Friday, Marjina’s mutilated body was found in a field.
Leading the protest, her family threatened to end their lives if the accused was not given the death penalty.
Locals said Bapi had an affair with another girl during is engagement, which led to a quarrel between the families.
