MUMBAI: The state's action plan to bring down pollution levels in Mumbai, Solapur and Nashik has finally been approved by the central government after revising it for the third time.

The Centre, under its National Clean Air Programme, launched in January to take action in 122 cities, had set a national target of reducing key air pollutants PM 10 and PM 2.5 by 20-30% by 2024, taking 2017 as the base year.
Maharashtra had 18 of these cities.
For Mumbai, Solapur and Nashik the actions plans were being rejected and required revisions to be made by Maharashtra Pollution Control Board. The third plans received the nod on October 14.
At the firecracker testing on Friday, VM Motghare, joint director (air quality), MPCB, said, "Three action plans pending approval Mumbai, Solapur and Nashik have been approved by a high-level committee set up by the Government of India. With this, all action plans in the state have been approved. This (approved plans) were the third revision as the government needed us to work out details. In this action plan we submitted details for parking facilities being made available, green buffer zones, social power utilization, scrapping policy regards to BS III, BS IV buses, a road widening plan to ease traffic congestion and promotion of electrical and CNG vehicles. "
