PATNA: In a daring incident, a youth equipped with a country-made pistol barged into the house of a businessman and shot dead his young wife in the presence of her three minor children in Kaimur district late on Saturday night.
The incident took place around 9.30 pm near Patel College on Bhagwanpur Road, barely 500 metres from the official residence of Kaimur SP Dilnawaz Ahmad.

Police officers were also taken by surprise at the dare devil act of the assailant, whom the deceased’s family claimed to have identified.
The deceased was identified as Sita Devi (36), a native of Koini village in Kaimur district. The victim’s husband Satyanarayan Prasad told police that he was at his tailoring shop when the assailant entered his newly constructed house and pumped a bullet into her body, causing grievous injuries. The injured was rushed to the sadar hospital at Bhabua where she was declared brought dead.
A doctor posted at the sadar hospital K Tiwari said the woman had died before she was taken to the hospital. The bullet had hit vital parts of her body leading to her instant death, the doctor said.
Bhabua Town police station SHO Ramanand Mandal said, “An FIR has been lodged against unknown persons on the statement of the deceased’s husband, who runs a tailoring shop in the town. The reason behind the murder of the young woman is yet to be ascertained.”

According to the police complaint, the assailant knocked the door of the house around 9.30 pm when the woman was in her bedroom. One of the three children present in the house opened the door and the assailant entered the room after pushing him. The children didn’t raise any alarm as the criminal had threatened them with dire consequences.
The SHO further said, “Efforts are on to ascertain the identity of the killer, who seems to be a family acquaintance. The CCTV footage will be obtained from nearby houses in the locality. The family had recently settled in the town and constructed a new house.”
The police didn’t rule out extra martial affair as one of the reasons behind her murder. “We are looking into this aspect also,” the SHO said. Police have so far failed to make any breakthrough in the incident.
