It’s Delhi's Connaught Place again: Hotel staffer loses phone, Rs 15,000 to snatcher

NEW DELHI: A receptionist working with a hotel in Connaught Place was targeted by a snatcher while she was walking back home after work. The woman, Shirin, who resides in the staff quarters of Thailand Embassy in Chanakyapuri, told police that her mobile phone and its cover, in which she had kept around Rs 15,000, were taken away by the criminal. This is the third snatching reported from the same area in the past four days.
Shirin said like usual she was walking to go to her residence on Friday evening.When she reached the subway near N-Block, a man came from behind, pushed her and snatched her mobile phone and cash. “The man was wearing a white T-shirt and white pants. I had got my salary and kept Rs 15,000 in the cover of my mobile phone. When the man snatched my phone, I tried to take it back. Unfortunately, only the cover came in my hand. The money and phone fell down. When I tried to pick them up, the man pulled me by the hair. No one came to my help,” Shirin told TOI.
The man picked up the phone and cash, pushed Shirin and ran out of the subway. “I tried chasing him, but he managed to flee,” the victim said.
The victim lodged a complaint at Connaught Place police station on Saturday after which an FIR was registered under IPC sections 356 (assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft) and 379 (punishment for theft). The victim’s father works as a butler with the Thailand ambassador to India.
On Friday morning, a 24-year old man was robbed of his cycle and mobile phone by bikers in Connaught Place. On Thursday morning, the mobile phone of an Air Force officer was snatched when he had come to CP for a workout.
