AYODHYA: After Muslim litigants announced delaying mosque construction if Supreme Court verdict is in their favour, Vishwa Hindu Parishad has returned the gesture by cancelling all programmes of mobilising activists and instructed members of all Hindutva outfits to maintain harmony.
State Vishwa Hindu Parishad spokesperson Sharad Sharma said, "We have cancelled all programmes keeping in view the Ayodhya verdict next month.
Whether the order in favour of Hindus or Muslims, both the communities must present greatest examples of harmony and brotherhood... We must ensure no untoward incident takes place." Last week, some Muslim litigants in Ayodhya case had said that if the SC judgment is in their favour, the construction of mosque would be delayed on the disputed land to maintain harmony.
Meanwhile, Ayodhya police started conducting joint meetings of Hindu and Muslim communities at different places in the temple town. Police issued a warning to people to not get involved or allow anyone from commenting on any religion or community.
"We are keeping an eye on social media platforms and have issued warnings to not post controversial messages against any religion and community that may disturb communal harmony," Ayodhya SSP Ashish Tiwari told TOI.
