CP Plus to ramp up Tirupati plant with eye on exports

Hyderabad: Security surveillance systems and solutions provider CP Plus plans to expand its sole CCTV camera and DVR (digital video recorder) manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati to 15 million devices by March 2021 with an eye on foraying into the exports markets and entering new segments in the domestic market as well.
The Delhi-based player, which has a 50:50 manufacturing joint venture with Dixon Technologies -- AIL Dixon Technologies Pvt Ltd, manufactures 10 million devices at Tirupati.
The company plans to ramp up capacity by March 2021 and kick off exports to neighbouring markets like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as well as the Middle East and South East Asia, Yogesh B Dutta, COO, CP Plus, said, adding that plans are afoot to enter the US market too over the next two years or so.
While refusing to divulge the investment in the expansion, he said the expansion will see it ramp up the number of jobs at the plant from 2,000 to about 3,000.
“We plan to completely localise production and R&D within the next one year. We also plan to shift the production of our hi-end camera models, which we currently outsourced to manufacturers in China, to India,” Dutta said.
The Tirupati plant, which was set up in 2017, has five assembly lines for recorders, 20 lines for CCTV cameras and three SMT (surface mount technology) lines for making PCBs that will be increased by 15-odd lines, he said adding that 60-65% of the augmented capacity will be utilised for export markets.
Dutta said the Rs 1,600 crore turnover player, which has hitherto been present in the B2B segment, is also looking at entering the B2C segment with wearable devices like kids trackers, plug-and-play WiFi cameras and dashcams, among others.
