TWAW Anniversary

It can be difficult for a woman to find trusted guidance when it comes to owning and operating a firearm. Walking into most gun stores is intimidating and asking basic questions can be met with condescending answers. Or worse, the salesman insists you need a gun with "knockdown power," and sells you a hand-cannon that, sure enough, knocks you down the first time you fire it. Experiences like this can discourage any self-respecting woman from learning about firearms. Enter The Well Armed Woman Shooting Chapters.

The Well Armed Woman began in 2012, after our founder could not find a significant resource for the female shooter. Four years later, Jennifer Everhart attended a TWAW meeting and brought it to Northeast Colorado with the help of Chris Fiegel. The first meeting of Sterling TWAW was held on October 15, 2016 and a dozen women gathered at Tri-State Tactical to learn more about the organization. Safety is a primary concern, and the Mission Statement is "TWAW Shooting Chapters exists to Educate and Empower women in a safe and non-threatening environment for their effective and responsible self-defense with a firearm." TWAW will meet you wherever you are in your skills or knowledge and help you on your journey.

Most signed up within the next month, and 17 attended the next meeting. Ladies were able to go to Boondocks in Sterling where they received wonderful guidance in selecting a gun that was right for them. Local instructors donated time and knowledge to help provide valuable instruction in firearms safety, self-defense, personal defense inside the home, levels of awareness, gun care/maintenance, and an enlightening seminar on the difference between make my day and self-defense. Sterling TWAW continues to provide monthly training (geared toward the individual's skill and comfort level) on firearms skills such as moving/shooting, multiple threat engagement, reactionary gap and how to clear malfunctions to name a few of our topics.

This year, we participated in the nation-wide #NOTME or #NEVERAGAIN day on June 1st, where ladies met at local ranges to stand in solidarity with each other and fire three rounds to symbolize I am empowered, I am prepared, and I will not be a victim. Our local chapter leaders became instructors as TWAW launched its Instructional Standards and Development Program last year. This enables us to provide quality instruction to our members.

As our third anniversary approaches, we would like to invite anyone interested to learn more about The Well Armed Shooting Chapters. A celebration will take place at the Logan County Shooting Sports Complex, 12515 Highway 61/2nd Amendment Way off Highway 61 Sterling on October 19, 2019 from 9-11 a.m. Donations will be accepted, and participants will be entered in a drawing for donated items such as a purple pistol case and TWAW umbrella. Information will be available, and members will be on hand to share their experiences with the organization and answer questions.

If all of that doesn't inspire you to come check out TWAW, I have two more words for you-FREE CAKE. At least while supplies last.
