Eight people have been injured in a horror ‘mini bus’ crash in Argyll and Bute which has seen a 60-mile diversion put in place.

Emergency services were called to the scene, which lies just south of Bridge of Orchy, at around 12.15pm on Wednesday.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash with one being reported as being a minibus.

Police have closed the road between Tyndrum, around 4 miles south of the crash, and Ballachulish, almost 30 miles north.

Motorists are being rerouted on a 60-mile diversion along the west coast close to Oban.

Delays are expected and the diversion, which should take around an hour and a half, and may be in place for several hours.

Scottish ambulance service teams are on the scene, and it is understood an air ambulance is also in attendance.

Taking to Twitter Chief Superintendent Stewart Carle, head of road policing, wrote: “Attending serious injury RTC on A82 south of Bridge of Orchy.

“Road closed to rescue and treat multiple casualties by @ScotAmbService and @Fire_Scot.

“Road likely to be closed for many hours.”

The Sottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed four appliances and a volunteer unit are on the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called at 12.15pm to the A82 just south of Bridge of Orchy after reports of a two-vehicle collision.

“Fire and ambulances services are also in attendance.

“The road is currently closed between Tyndrum and Ballachulish.

“Diversions are in place.”

A spokesman from the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 1215 hours today to attend a road traffic incident on the A82 near the Bridge of Orchy.

"We dispatched six ambulances, our Special Operations Response Team and a paramedic practitioner to the scene, alongside an air ambulance helicopter and a Coastguard helicopter.

“We transported three patients to the Belford Hospital, Fort William; two patients were taken to Lorn & Islands Hospital, Oban, and three patients were transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Glasgow.”
