WARANGAL: A
video of hundreds of students crossing a path inundated by gushing water to reach their college in
Warangal Rural has gone viral on social media.
The post by a former student of Jayamukhi Institute of Technological Sciences highlighted the hardships faced by students after a bridge collapsed in summer.
Tagging MA&UD minister K T
Rama Rao, Bharat
Reddy Challa tweeted: “The way between the Narsampet to Nekkonda is like this.
The bridge has been in a damaged state for eight months. No one has taken any serious action. Please solve the problem.”
The video got 26,200 views in under a day. Reacting swiftly, KTR said that all steps would be taken. He said: “Will request roads and buildings minister Prashant Reddy to get this rectified asap.”
The path is the only way to reach the college and it has been submerged in water overflowing from
Madannapet Cheruvu nearby. Students and faculty members say the problem has worsened owing to torrential rains over the past few weeks. The director of the college, Rangaiah, said, “Owing to the rains, people are not even able to see the other side of the stretch clearly. This path is not only used by students, but also villagers. At least 2,000 people pass through the stretch everyday.”
Most students travel 30 km from places like
Hanamkonda, walk this path and then catch a college bus on the other side of the path daily.
