Bihar: 9-year-old girl gang-raped in Madhubani

A nine-year-old girl was gang-raped and dumped in a mango orchard under Phulparas police station area in Madhubani district on Thursday.

PATNA: A nine-year-old girl was gang-raped and dumped in a mango orchard under Phulparas police station area in Madhubani district on Thursday.
The survivor is undergoing treatment at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where her condition is stated to be critical. She was bleeding profusely when recovered from the orchard. Her private parts were badly damaged.
She was rushed to Ghoghardiha primary health centre where doctors referred her to the DMCH.
Phulparas SDPO Sunita Kumari said the girl was forcibly taken to the orchard by four youths when she was returning from a village pond after fishing around 2.30pm on Thursday. The youths raped the girl after stuffing clothes in her mouth. She was found lying unconscious by her father after frantic search.
The SDPO said the survivor’s statement would be recorded after her health condition improved. “I have sent a woman police officer to record the victim’s statement and initiate action against the culprits accordingly,” she told this newspaper over phone on Friday.
The victim’s father told the police that he had left the pond earlier and asked his daughter to follow him. “But she remained there for quite sometime and as returning home alone,” he added.
Earlier, Dr S K Rai, who first examined the victim at Ghoghardiha PHC, said, “She was bleeding profusely when brought to the hospital. She was referred to the DMCH as her condition had worsened.
