It's often hard to associate production of steel rebars with environmental friendliness.

According to Amreli Steels, the company understands that the choices their business makes everyday can play key roles in improving the environment and saving it from further damage.

Here are 5 facts that you probably don't know about Amreli Steels' manufacturing process:

1. Amreli Steels is one of the largest recyclers in Pakistan

Because of its unique properties, it is easy to remove steel from waste streams.

The process of removing steel does not downgrade the metal and so it can actually be recycled to produce more and more steel.

Amreli Steels takes the process of recycling a step further by refining the metal to produce high quality steel.

The company recycles about 300 million kgs of steel annually, which is 200,000 times as heavy as a car.

According to the brand, this makes Amreli Steels one of the largest recycling facilities in Pakistan.

2. Water used at Amreli Steels factory is 100% recycled

Steel production requires a lot of water mainly for cooling purposes. In a water-stressed country like Pakistan, this can be a problem.

However, Amreli Steels ensures that 100% of the water used during the manufacturing process is recycled by a state-of-the-art treatment plant without compromising on the quality of product and processes.

3.  The company has equipment and processes in place to control air pollution

There is a common misconception that steel manufacturing leads to air pollution.

Amreli Steels plants are installed with a PLC-based APC, which is quite literally an air pollution controller.

It does exactly what it says and reduces our carbon footprint by capturing fumes and dust for safe disposal, instead of releasing them in the air.

4. Amreli Steels strives to remain energy efficient

Since 1960, the amount of energy required to produce one ton of steel has been reduced by more than 60%.

The company is proud of the fact that it generates less carbon dioxide per ton of steel compared to a regular steel manufacturer.

5. Minimising waste is a priority at Amreli Steels

As a leading player in Pakistan’s steel industry, Amreli Steels employs cutting edge technology to ensure that it wastes as little material as possible during production of steel.

The company has adopted 5th generation red ring technology for its plant which improves product quality and yield. Improved yield directly translates into a reduction in waste.   As the world population grows, pressures on the Earth’s natural resources also continue to grow. Recognising this need for immediate action, Amreli Steels realises that the world is counting on its people to make sustainable choices every day.

This is why the brand plans to stay abreast of global advances in the steel manufacturing process, and constantly looks for ways to be responsible in their use of energy, water and other resources.
