Police probe shooting of two women in Athi River

 

Police in Athi River have launched a manhunt for gunmen who shot and killed two women in Katani area of Athi River on Saturday night.

According to the Athi River Sub County Police Commander Samuel Mukuusi, two armed gunmen trailed a Mlolongo-based businessman as he drove to his residence in Katani in the company of his wife where the assailants launched the ghastly attack.

The gunmen first shot at the mother of the businessman as she opened the gate for the car to enter into the home compound and then turned to her daughter-in-law who was in her husband’s car. The two died on the spot.

“The businessman was admitted to Shalom Community Hospital after sustaining gunshot injuries on his left arm and ankle,” Mukuusi told Standard Digital on Sunday.

He said the gunmen also snatched a handbag belonging to the businessman’s slain wife and escaped towards the quarry area.

“We are pursuing crucial leads to establish the motive of the shooting and who might have been behind it,” he said.

The bodies were removed to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary
