SHIVAMOGGA: Police have picked up three persons, including a student, after a video of a group of miscreants tying a cracker to the tail of a dog went viral.
District superintendent of police KM Shantaraju said action will be taken against the accused if they were found guilty. The other two picked for inquiry are said to be sales executives.
Dileep Nadig, founder-trustee of Malenadu Wildlife and Cultural Foundation, and Basava Prasad, founder, Animal Rescue Club, approached police seeking action against the accused after watching the video.

Nadig told TOI, "The incident was reported on October 26 at BR Project, Singanamane, around 7.30pm. It is learnt the accused lured the dog with a bun and tied a cracker to its tail. One from the group taped the act, and the video has since gone viral. Later, the video was uploaded on Shivamogga Trolls, a Facebook page, after the bike number was identified,” he said.
In the video, 2-3 boys sitting near a parked bike fasten a cracker to the dog’s tail with a long string. Then they light the cracker, and the dog scampers hundreds of feet away into the darkness.
Initially, Nadig and Prasad approached Shivamogga’s Jayanagar police station. They were directed to the Bhadravati Rural police station. Based on the complaint filed on Wednesday, police reportedly picked up Bharat, Nithin and Mithun for inquiry.
The activist duo visited the spot where the incident took place and found the dog healthy.
A case has been registered against the trio under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Bhadravati Rural police said the case is under investigation.
