Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao urged the Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, to use his good offices to get the defence land of 39.40 acres sanctioned in Secunderabad Cantonment for taking up an elevated road corridor along the National Highway-44.

Mr. Rao met Mr. Singh in New Delhi on Wednesday and presented him with the details of the elevated corridor of 11 km under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) to improve the Nagpur-Hyderabad highway.

“This would also improve the connectivity between Nagpur and Hyderabad and greatly benefit the Cantonment by completely de-congesting it,” he said in his memorandum.

The Union Minister was informed that the Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, had earlier requested the transfer of the defence land to the government for taking up the project, but no orders were received till date.

In another communication, Mr. Rao also wanted the Defence Ministry to release 66.37 acres of defence land along the State Highway-1 from Jubilee Bus Station to Thumukunta of 19 km stretch with 4 km-long elevated corridor for improving the Ramagundam-Hyderabad sector on the city outskirts.

The new road would improve connectivity between the entire north Telangana, including Karimnagar, Ramagundam and other important cities, and Hyderabad, he added.
