NEW DELHI: Fifty cases of pockets being picked were registered at Connaught Place police station in the last four days while the Diwali laser show was going on at Central Park in CP. Police said the majority of complaints were regarding theft of phones.
According to cops, two people have been arrested and the involvement of a gang behind the pickpocketing is suspected.
The laser show at Central Park was inaugurated on October 26 and went on till October 29.
According to the cops, at least 12 cases of pickpocketing were reported every day at Connaught Place police station over the last few days. “Of the 50 cases reported at the police station, 80% of them were regarding phones and wallets being stolen. Central Park has a capacity for around 700 people but around 15,000 turned up for the event each day, making it difficult to even move around in the rush or identify the accused,” said a police officer.
Delhi Police had to deploy officers in plainclothes to keep an eye on pickpockets. On Tuesday, they managed to arrest two pickpockets red-handed. The accused were identified as Wazarat alias Ujarat and Mohammad Saddam.
