Sourav Ganguly, the newly elected president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Thursday that the upcoming T20I match between India and Bangladesh on November 3 in New Delhi will go ahead as planned, despite concerns about air pollution.

“Yes, it will,” Ganguly told ANI when asked if the upcoming match will be played in the nation’s capital.

The air quality of New Delhi has continued to remain poor since Diwali, but Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Monday hoped that pollution will not be a deterrent for the contest between the two neighbouring nations.

“I hope that pollution will not come in the way of cricket. To reduce pollution, we are also implementing the odd-even scheme from November 4,” Kejriwal had said.

Former cricketer and politician Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday said that pollution is a bigger concern than a cricket match, as “people living in Delhi should be more concerned about the pollution levels.”

Festive offer

According to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), on Monday morning, the most polluted locations post-Diwali were Delhi University (North Campus), Pusa, Rohini-Punjabi Bagh, Wazirpur, Jahangirpuri, DTU, and Bawana.

The first T20I of the three-match series between India and Bangladesh is scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on November 3. The remaining two clashes will be played at Rajkot and Nagpur, before the two Tests will be played at Indore and Kolkata.
