In a daring incident, criminals injured an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) after shooting him in leg during a raid at village Haripur Tinkonwa under Murliganj police station area in Madhepura district on Thursday.

PATNA: In a daring incident, criminals injured an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) after shooting him in leg during a raid at village Haripur Tinkonwa under Murliganj police station area in Madhepura district of Bihar on Thursday.
One of the criminals involved in the incident was arrested by police within a couple of hours while two others managed to flee.
The ASI, identified as Shyam Dev Thakur, was immediately rushed to a nearby primary health centre (PHC) from where he was later shifted to Madhepura sadar hospital for better medical treatment.

Thakur, who is in his early 50s, was leading the raiding team for arresting some criminals who were suspected to had killed a man a day before at Murliganj.
However, as soon as police started to chase the criminals after spotting them, they open fired on the police team.
Surprisingly, while several rounds were fired by the criminals, none of the policemen in the raiding team fired even a single round to retaliate, according to sources.
Soon after the incident, Madhepura SP Sanjay Kumar himself reached at the spot to monitor the situation and conduct raids to arrest the criminals.

When asked, Sanjay Kumar told TOI that one criminal was arrested from the village with two country-made pistols and six live cartridges after further raids were conducted by police with reinforcement.
“The arrested criminal was being interrogated by police to know his involvement in open firing on police as well as his criminal antecedents,” he said adding that no firing took place from police’s side.
“His two associates were also hiding at the village at the time when Thakur with his raiding team had went there. However they had managed to escape and efforts were on to nab them too,” he said.
SP said that one Sanjeev Yadav was murdered at Kolhaipatti village under Murliganj police station area on Wednesday and Thursday’s raid was aimed to arrest the killers.
Meanwhile, a surgeon KK Das posted at the sadar hospital, said that the ASI was out of danger as bullet had pierced through his right thigh.
