Ayodhya verdict: Imams to appeal for peace at Friday namaz in Aligarh
The meeting was organised by the Aligarh administration and police department on Thursday.
AGRA: Aligarh’s clerics have decided to disseminate the message of peace among the community members at Friday namaz in wake of impending SC judgment on Ayodhya land dispute case.
This was disclosed by Imams after attending a peace committee meeting, organised by the Aligarh administration and police department on Thursday. The clerics assured the administration that they would publicly advise Muslims after the namaz to ensure that there is no breach of law in wake of the Ayodhya land judgement.

Talking to media, one of the Imams, Ahmad Khan said, "Whatever is the decision of the apex court on Ayodhya issue, communal harmony should be maintained in the town. We will circulate this message after tomorrow’s namaz and urge people to accept the Supreme Court’s judgement on Ayodhya issue with open arms.”
He added that they will also keep an eye on people who try to disturb the law and order situation.
Another imam, Mohammad Naseem, said that their priority is to maintain peace in the town and they will immediately inform the administration or police, if someone tries to vitiate the atmosphere. He added that police should ensure that if required then National Security Act (NSA) should be slapped on people trying to create mischief.
Members from the community, who attended the meeting, also suggested that district authorities should shut down the internet service for a day so that people can not misuse social media to spread misinformation and fake news. They also said extra police force should be deployed at sensitive points in the city.
Talking to TOI, Aligarh district magistrate, CB Singh, said that the purpose of the meeting was to build confidence among people. He said, people from both the communities were very cooperative and hoped that peace and calm would be maintained at all costs.
