Delhi: Call to food delivery service lands woman on run in police net

The woman, Tuba Fatma (28), has allegedly duped several people by selling them fake tour packages.

A call to an online food delivery service led to the arrest of a woman, who had been on the run for the last two months after allegedly duping several people by selling them fake tour packages, from South Delhi’s Chhatarpur.

DCP (South West) Devender Arya said the accused, Tuba Fatma (28), is from West Bengal. She did her schooling in Noida and BTech in Bengaluru.

According to the DCP, she was arrested based on a complaint filed at Vasant Kunj (North) police station by Keshav Dhingra, who claimed he h]was duped of Rs 6.5 lakh by Fatma’s company, Clique Meraki Pvt Ltd.

Police said she had promised him a Europe tour package for two families, but went on the run after he filed the complaint.

“Her father, who was in real estate, suffered huge losses. She was looking for a job but didn’t get one. She then decided to cheat people by opening a tour company with her friend and her younger brother, who are absconding,” said a senior officer.

Explaining their modus operandi, an officer said they issued ads in newspapers and on social media.

“They would offer cheap and attractive domestic and international packages. After striking a deal with their victims, they got them to transfer the money after which they sent fake air tickets, without PNR number, via e-mail. The scam came to light when clients reached the airport, only to discover the tickets were fake. The trio, who were running the company for the last three years and mainly targeted senior citizens, duped several people,” the officer said, adding that they would change their office address when people started pressuring them to return the money.
