A lawyer was found dead in Kareli police station area of Prayagraj early on Thursday, triggering a protest by his colleagues.

Idrees (30), who belonged to Bara tehsil of the district and practised law at district court, was found dead next to his motorcycle around 3 am in Ghaus Nagar area. “After spotting him, neighbours informed the family members. He was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival,” said Prayagraj SP Satyarth Aniruddha Pankaj.

“We are investigating into the matter and will soon arrest the accused. We have some clues to narrow down on who has killed him. The family has not named anyone as suspects yet,” said the SP.

The SP said that the lawyers were demanding immediate compensation for the victim’s family. “Immediate compensation is not possible. The district administration has assured the protesting lawyers that it will recommend the government to give the victim’s family compensation. The protest was called off after an hour, but may continue tomorrow (Friday),” said the SP.
