Zoom Air to fly between Delhi and Agra

The Zoom Air flight between Delhi and Agra, which started this week, has given back hopes to the local tourism industry which was facing disappointment after the cancellation of Agra-Khajuraho flight.

Although the flight has been started for only four days a week, running on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, the airline will soon be adding another flight between Agra and Jaisalmer.

With a flight between Agra and Jaipur already flying under the regional connectivity scheme, this will be the second flight connecting Agra to a city in Rajasthan.

However, the tourism industry has expressed dissatisfaction at the way the larger airlines have been treating Agra.

Rakesh Chauhan, president of the Agra Hotel and Restaurants Association said that apart from Delhi, Agra also needs regular connectivity to other larger cities of the country like Mumbai and Kolkata as there is a lot of traffic from Agra to these places which has to be routed through Delhi.

A lot of cities in South India like Bengaluru, Hyderabad and even Goa need to be connected with Agra to take optimum advantage of the city’s travel potential.

He said that although Zoom Air has launched an Agra-Delhi flight, it is still to be seen if they will operate it regularly as in the past years. The people of Agra have seen many flights started from Agra, which did not continue past a few months.

Notably, Air Deccan had already been granted the No-Objection Certificate to start flights between Agra and Delhi and it had to start these flights from 8th January 2019, but that did not happen as Air Deccan pulled back after delaying the launch for several months.

Now, that the flight has been started by Zoom Air, by flying a 50-seater Bombardier jet.

On Thursday, when the flight landed in Agra, only one passenger got off the flight in Agra. When the flight left for Delhi in the evening, only two passengers boarded the flight from Agra.

Primary reason for this is being quoted as the lack of publicity by Zoom Air and the unavailability of the tickets to these flights on popular travel portals like MakeMyTrip and Yatra.

Tourism Guild President Arun Dang said that with this flight in operation, the Golden Triangle is finally connected by the air route once more. But if there is no publicity of these flights, they could be shut down very soon, so the travel agencies should take up the mantle and book their clients in these flights, promoting them at their end.
