Bhagalpur ghats spruced up for 'arghya' today

BHAGALPUR: Bhagalpur district magistrate Pranav Kumar, SSP Ashish Bharti and several social activists joined hands with the workers engaged in cleaning the river ghats for the Chhath festival on Friday. Many political leaders including JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Kahkashan Perween, Bhagapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) ward councillor Hansal Singh and others also were part of the cleanliness drive.

Earlier, the DM, the SSP and SDO Ashish Narayan inspected the river ghats which included the Barari ghat, Hanuman ghat, Adampur ghat, Maniksarkar ghat, Babupur ghat, Burhanath ghat and others to review the sanitation work done by the civic body besides safety and security of the devotees during the four-day Chhath festival.
The officials said that they participated in the cleanliness drive to create awareness among the common people to keep the ghats and the rivers clean besides motivating the sanitation workers, social activists and common citizens. "The ghats are ready for Chhath puja rituals. We have made elaborate security arrangements. We also appeal to the residents to emulate such initiatives and add to the efforts of the administration for improving cleanliness in the city," the DM said.
Other officials who also participated in cleaning the chhath ghats include City SP Saroj Kumar, City DSP Rajvansh Singh and others.
Lakhs of devotees in the city perform Chhath Puja, the only Vedic festival devoted to the Sun God and 'Chhathi Maiya'. Chhath is basically performed to thank Surya for being the primordial force sustaining life on earth.
