Govt says not alerted on breach, WhatsApp says it did — in May
A day after the government sought an explanation from WhatsApp on the alleged surveillance of phones using Israeli spyware Pegasus, the messaging platform said it had “notified relevant Indian authorities” in May about “a security issue” that it had “resolved”. An establishment source countered the response, suggesting that the notification was “too technical a jargon” and did not reveal that “privacy of Indian users had been compromised”.

The People’s Democratic Party expelled party leader and Rajya Sabha member Nazir Ahmad Laway for attending the swearing-in ceremony of Jammu and Kashmir’s first Lt Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu, on Thursday.
