Five persons died after inhaling toxic fumes on Friday while refurbishing a septic tank in Katghara Patti village of Sultanpur, barely 140km from Lucknow.

LUCKNOW: Five persons died after inhaling toxic fumes on Friday while refurbishing a septic tank in Katghara Patti village of Sultanpur, barely 140km from Lucknow.
While chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the deaths, the district administration announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the victims.
The deceased men were identified as Rajesh Nishad (32), Ashok Nishad (40), Ravindra Nishad (25), Mohammed Sharif (52) and Ram Kishan (40).
Vinod Nishad (22), who fell unconscious, is undergoing treatment at the local community health centre.
Station house officer, Dostpur, Arvind Pandey said Ram Kishan, a mason, was repairing and refurbishing the septic tank in the house of Ram Tirath when he suddenly fell into it.
"Ashok, Ravindra, Mohammed Sharif and Rajesh jumped into the tank to save Ram Kishan but all of them died of suffocation. Vinod Nishad also went in but fell unconscious. He is undergoing treatment," he said.
The bodies were taken out by the police and villagers.
District magistrate, Sultanpur, Indumati said the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination after which Rs 4 lakh compensation would be provided to the families of victims.
