Cyclone Maha to bring more showers for Pune, Konkan: IMD

The city’s tryst with grey skies will continue at least until midweek. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that Pune will receive rain along with thunder and lightning from today to Thursday.

PUNE: The city’s tryst with grey skies will continue at least until midweek. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that Pune will receive rain along with thunder and lightning from today to Thursday.
The rainfall activity is linked to Cyclone Maha that is likely to recurve east-north-eastward and head towards south Gujarat starting Tuesday, the Met office said.

“On Monday, the city will see cloudy skies and there are chances of very light rainfall in some areas. Rainfall in Pune district will intensify as Cyclone Maha recurves towards Gujarat,” said Anupam Kashyapi, head, weather department at IMD Pune.
The skies will remain partly cloudy today but the cover will increase on Tuesday. “This will keep the day temperatures at around 30 degrees Celsius, whereas nights will be cooler with temperatures hovering around 19 degrees Celsius,” Kashyapi said.
On Sunday, the Shivajinagar observatory recorded a day temperature of 30.8 degrees Celsius and night temperature of 19 degree Celsius. The Lohegaon observatory recorded a day temperature of 30.9 degrees Celsius and night temperature of 19.7 degrees Celsius.

On Tuesday, the city is expected to receive light rainfall, between 2.5mm and 15.5mm, whereas the intensity will increase from Wednesday night and continue for at least the next 24 hours. The rain will be accompanied by some gusty winds at speeds of 25-30 kmph.
Cyclone Maha is currently located at 550km south west of Veraval in Gujarat and 580km south-south west of Diu.
