WEST MIDNAPORE: A 35-year-old electrical engineer was killed and two of his friends were injured on Sunday when a herd of elephants at Jhargram’s Antaria village attacked them.
The victim, Ashis Shit, was a resident of Howrah’s Mourigram.
On Sunday, the three friends went to Jhargram’s Chilkigarh area on a bike. While returning, they got to know that a herd of elephants was moving in jungle close to a nearby village.
They reached the place around 1.30pm. When they tried to enter the jungle, locals warned them against it. However, they did not pay heed.
They went very close to the herd and tried to take some photos. Suddenly, one of the elephants picked up Ashis with its trunk and smashed him to the ground. He was later taken to the nearby primary health care centre where he was declared dead. The other two youths, Uttam Ghosh and Shivshankar Ram, were also injured but they managed to flee the spot.
