LUCKNOW: A motorist and his friend had a lucky escape when their luxury sedan leaped off the flyover near Janeshwar Mishra Park and got caught in a tree in the small hours of Sunday.
What is more bizarre though is that police failed to register a case or even challan Amir Kamal, a property dealer from Gokhale Marg, and his friend Arib Hussain for speeding at a time the Road Safety Month campaign is underway.

Gomtinagar SHO Amit Dubey insisted that a case could not be registered because no one filed a complaint. Asked if the duo were drunk and speeding, Dubey said both were gone by the time police reached the scene and hence, nothing could be ascertained.
Lawyers, however, maintained that police couldn't afford to be so lenient and nonchalant in cases of reckless driving.
Senior advocate Nitin Mathur said the facts that the sedan jumped a flyover and landed on a tree were indicative of speeding. "Even if no one lodged a case or no commuter suffered injuries, police are bound to challan the driver. The action would have been a deterrent for all motorists," he said.
Criminal lawyer Alok Singh agreed that the onus was on police because the car could have run over a passer-by.
"Cops should have conducted a technical inspection of the vehicle first and then lodged a case based on the report," Singh said, adding that medical examination of the driver could have revealed if he were under the influence of alcohol, which is a bigger offence.
