Pune police arrest gang of pick-pockets from Beed district

CCTV footage helped Faraskhana police to arrest a gang of pick pockets who were operating in crowded spots in Peth areas for the past three months. The police have detected two cases and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 1.20 lakh from the gang involving two women.

PUNE: CCTV footage helped Faraskhana police to arrest a gang of pick-pockets who were operating in crowded spots in Peth areas for the past three months. The police have detected two cases and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 1.20 lakh from the gang involving two women.
The police have identified the suspects as Balu Pawar (21), his wife Heena (19) and Adika Kale (40) all from Beed district.
A team of Faraskhana police led by senior inspector Jagannath Kalaskar took the trio into custody from Beed.
On October 3, a 52-year-old woman from Shirur had come to Pune for shopping of gold ornaments and other articles for Diwali. When the woman had gone to Raviwar Peth, she found that her gold bracelet was stolen from her purse. The woman approached the Faraskhana police and lodged an FIR.
Kalaskar said that the police checked the CCTV footages from the different parts of the city and also toll plazas on the Pune-Ahmendagar highway. “We found that the suspects had gone to Beed by a four-wheeler after the theft,” Kalaskar said.
The police team comprised sub-inspector Yashapal Suryavanshi, police constables Bapu Khutwad, Sayaji Chavan rushed to Beed district took them into custody. “During the questioning, the suspect Balu Pawar admitted that on July 5, he had stolen a gold chain of woman who had gone to Kasba Peth for offering prayers at Saibaba palkhi. “We have recovered 30gm gold ornaments worth Rs 1.30 lakh from the suspects,” Kalaskar said.
